Trauma work

I am trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) as a mode of treatment for recovering from traumatic life events. I also incorporate the use of creative expression and body awareness skills to help facilitate movement towards healing and wholeness. This could include: writing, painting, sculpting, relaxation skills, and mindful breathing exercises

Life transitions: standing alone in the ‘in-between’ place

Along the journey, we must face many situations where we do not know where to go or how to get there. We are not schooled in how to move with dignity and grace through the many endings that visit us in our lives. We are not shown how to sit in the in-between place and feel the full range of emotion that often comes in recurring waves.

Whether the loss comes through death, divorce, retirement, or any other form, loss comes. It demands our respect and appreciation for the changes it puts us through. Together, we will explore these endings to make room for new beginnings.

Theoretical Orientation

My philosophy of therapy rests on the premise that choosing to enter into a relationship such as this is a sacred act, and should be treated accordingly. The foundation of my work is Jungian oriented, this means we will place an emphasis on deepening the relationship to one’s inner life through increasing awareness of the unconscious influences that impact the way we experience our lives. I will encourage building a relationship with your own unique inner language through engagement with dreams, life patterns, and the way your body speaks to you.  I will also use approaches such as creative expression, solution-focused therapy, acceptance-commitment therapy (ACT) and EMDR as are appropriate to help facilitate this process.

The length and outcome of therapy differs for each individual. These differences may be influenced by client’s goals, current and early life experiences, motivation, and resources of the individual seeking therapy. Depth oriented therapy is usually mid to long term, whereas short-term therapy is geared towards specific goals such as increasing tools to manage daily stressors.

I see therapy as a courageous act of fostering genuine acceptance of the complexities that make us the unique individuals we are. I strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment in which to begin this journey towards ones authentic self.
